Cuisinart 7-Cup Capacity Food Processor, White
"Do I Need This?"
Perhaps you are thinking, "Do I really need a food processor?" The answer is, "Yes!"
Twenty years ago I bought the same model as this one and it has seen daily use and is still running strong! I thought I wouldn't really use it that much, but once you start using it you find that it makes food preparation so much quicker that soon you can't do without it! Not only is it great for slicing and chopping, but it is also great for preparing bread dough (no more hand kneading!), pureeing, and making peanut butter.
The only time I use a blender instead of the food processor is when I'm pureeing a large amount of liquid (like a hot soup), because it will leak out of the food processor.
Because of the food processor, I find that I make lots of recipes that I formerly wouldn't have because they used to take too much time.
Caution: The blades are razor SHARP! The first week I had my processor, I pulled bread dough off the blade without being very careful, and sliced...
Cuisinart disappointment
I grew up in a Cuisinart kitchen - so when it was time to stock my own kitchen with necessary appliances - I knew Cuisinart was the way to go. Boy, did I make a mistake on this one, I guess you get what you pay for.
While it does well slicing, using it to make sauces or doughs leaves a lot to be desired. There is absolutely no seal between the bowl and the lid - if you put any liquid or flour in the bowl and turn it on, it comes flying out the sides and top. Not only does this make a mess, but it screws up the proportions in your recipes.
If you are going to invest in a food processor, I would choose either the very well rated Kitchen Aid or one of the more expensive Cuisinarts (perhaps the classics or the power preps).
...
Bread and pie dough made easy.
Do not overfill, follow the directions, and use the "pusher" to cover the fill tube, and let the processor finish the job in moments.
I also use the processor to chop or grate or slice vegetables.
The cutting blade comes very close to the bottom of the bowl, so small quantities of mayonaisse can be made.
Well designed product.
