Electrolux EIMGD55IIW IQ-Touch 8 Cu. Ft. White Stackable With Steam Cycle Gas Front Load Dryer
Nice dryer but use with caution
We bought one of these dryers in late 2011, and loved it: looks and works great.

Then we moved in 2013, and after installing the dryer in the new house, the lint inside the dryer housing ignited. Some of the lint must have shifted during the move, moving closer to the gas heater source. Luckily, the fire didn't cause major damage. I did some research online, and came across a class-action suite, "[...]", which seems to indicate that this was not just an isolated incident.

You need to take the back of the dryer off in order to see the lint buildup inside the dryer housing (around the drum motor, heater source, etc), and vacuum up as much lint as possible. My wife is meticulous about cleaning the lint trap with every load, so there may be a design issue involved letting the lint migrate inside the housing. We will keep using it, but will check the lint build-up often to make sure it is safe.

Samsung RFG293HARS 29 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - Energy Star

Samsung RFG293HARS 29 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - Energy Star

Samsung RFG293HARS 29 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator - Energy Star
So far so good!
Must say, researching a refrigerator is a perilous endeavor, fraught with all kinds of misinformation and marketing hype, not to mention biased reviews on all the manufacturer websites that they've hand picked and pruned, so you never really know who to trust.

After much hemming and hawing and talking to some friends of friends in the business, we were told that Samsung was one of the better brands from a reliability standpoint. In addition, they happened to have some the most spacious designs and I had seen fewer horrifically bad reviews than other brands, so I decided to give them a chance.

By pure fate, my wife and I stumbled on this particular model in a store right before we pulled the trigger on an order for a slightly different model. This one, as you'll note in the photos, has no ice maker or water dispenser in the door. Furthermore, inside, it has no ice maker on the upper left shelf, taking up a ton of room and limiting your interior space. You also get...

Samsung 29 cu Fridge freezing our vegetables
What we like about it. Very stylish, modern looking, stainless steel is beautiful. Huge refrigerator, and no ice dispenser taking needed refrigerator room. Easy access to everything with french doors. Very sturdy build. Very well protected with wrapping on delivery so not a single scratch on it. Would have been very pleased, if it was just furniture. Stainless steel shows fingerprints everywhere, just a warning, but we knew that beforehand, and just remember to always use the handle or clean it frequently.

What we did not like about it: The refrigerator freezes everything, despite being on factory setting of 38F. We tried everything, turned the refrigerator setting on warmest 46F, freezer on warmest setting to 8F, crisper on warmest setting. Tried unplugging for ten minutes (resets it), then 30 mins, then an hour. But even with refrigerator on 46f, 2 days later, everything still freezing. Destroys fruit or vegetables in one night, frozen solid. When we went to ask...

the doors deliver with lots of gallon size room
We were amazed by the room in the frige. More fits in the door than I expected. After reading other reviews about freezing food I bought a frige thermometer that reads 38 with the frige set to 40. I do not have any problems with food freezing. One of the frige shelves folds in half if you would want to put something tall (maybe a vase of flowers) in the frige a nice option. Along with all the room another nice feature is the lighting it is bright and easy to find things even in the back of the frige. The freezer is also large we added a 20lb turkey at thanksgiving but still have room for our normal freezer food. If you need the room it's a good value and an attractive choice.

29 Cubic Foot French Door Refrigerator with 3 Doors and Integrated Water & Ice Samsung refrigerators bring innovation to both design and storage. Their beautiful and sleek design complements any kitchen décor. And, the enhanced storage capacity offers more space inside with the same outside dimensions as a traditional model. That's more room to hold your favorite drinks, party platters and leftovers. Twin cooling keeps food fresh longer: Samsung's Twin Cooling System takes refrigeration out of the ice age with dual action cooling that keeps your food fresh. It does this by controlling and generating cooling air for the refrigerator and freezer separately with two evaporators, two fan systems and precise electronic control. The Twin Cooling System maintains humidity and temperature levels that are just right so food stays super fresh. More usable space inside for easier storage: This large 29 cubic foot refrigerator won't take up more space in your kitchen. Cuisinart DCC-1250SA Grind & Brew 12 Cup Coffee Maker

Cuisinart DCC-1250SA Grind & Brew 12 Cup Coffee Maker

Cuisinart DCC-1250SA Grind & Brew 12 Cup Coffee Maker
Not for coffee lovers
The machine works OK. There's nothing wrong with it. But basically it makes what I call "truck-stop coffee." This is coffee for the non-discriminating coffee drinker. Now I'm not a coffee snob - I'll drink truck stop coffee - but I don't want it at home! I've been making coffee with a burr grinder and a cone-style filter since the 1970's and I've grown used to a cup of gourmet coffee in the morning. When my Krups Grind and Brew died (excellent gourmet coffeemaker by the way), I decided to give the Cuisinart a try because it was cheaper.

I've had this coffeemaker for two weeks and I'm already shopping for a replacement. First of all, it uses flat-bottom "basket" style coffee filters (Mr. Coffee-type filters), not the cone-style filters that are well known to produce better coffee. This info was not in any of the online descriptions or reviews. Secondly, it does not have a grinder--not like the Capresso of Krups machines. Instead, it has a rotary blade chopper...

Best coffee maker I've ever had
After having several drip coffee makers (both inexpensive and VERY expensive), this is the best for the following reasons:

- low noise grinder
- makes a full pot in less time
- easy to clean
- at a glance look at remaining coffee (can't do this with a carafe)
- reasonable price, good warranty
- Best of all, it makes a delicious cup of coffee

You Can Taste The Difference
The old $10 Proctor-Silex coffee maker in our office here in Afghanistan had seen better days. And even though we used bottled water and ground our own beans, the flavor was just barely passable. A few people I knew had a Cuisinart unit similar to this one and all said it was a darned good maker of the java. So I convinced the other coffee chronics to chip in with me and buy this as an office morale booster. We weren't prepared for the huge difference in coffee quality that we got. It was like our taste buds had taken the last several months off and suddenly returned to duty.

This coffee maker produces some of the best coffee that you can find this side of a mom-and-pop barista joint. Every pot is consistently made and always delicious. Plus it's easy enough to use that we haven't yet dorked up making a pot. The 12-cup carafe is big enough to handle the chore of serving four serious drinkers. The built in bean grinder does a perfect job pulverizing the beans...

For those of us who consider coffee not just a simple "drink", but rather, a cornerstone of our daily life and the fuel that keeps our lifes going (take it from a father of twins that runs his own business!!). The Coffee you need from the name you know and trust, Cuisinart. This deluxe coffeemaker not only helps you start your day right, by brewing rich, delicious coffee starting with grinding the beans, but also keeps you going during the day, by keeping it hot all day, (so you can keep your eyes open until you clock out). With fully automatic controls including an auto shutoff, you can program this coffeemaker to grind the beans and make your fresh coffee any time of day. And lets say that you just want a few cups of coffee (not 12!), well with the Brew Pause feature, this coffeemaker can make between 1 and 4 cups of coffee without wasting the other 8 cups. And when it comes time to clean up, this coffeemaker has a 2 piece grinding assembly, and a filter basket that are completely dishwasher safe. For those of us who dont just want another cheap coffee maker, this Cuisinart Coffeemaker is what you have been waiting for. (Description written and copyrighted by Seller GottaLoveMovies)

  • Automatic Grinder that grinds beans right before brewing to maximize the quality and taste of your coffee
  • Fully Programmable to start the grind and brew process any time of day, with an automatic shutoff
  • 1-4 Cup Feature which gives you the same quality and flavor if you want to brew 1-4 cups of coffee or 12 cups..
  • An attractive Steel trim look to complement the contemporary look of your kitchen
  • Made with all removable dishwasher safe parts, making cleanup easy

T-fal SM601003A Avante Nonstick Sandwich/Waffle Maker

T-fal SM601003A Avante Nonstick Sandwich/Waffle Maker

T-fal SM601003A Avante Nonstick Sandwich/Waffle Maker
Wonderful Waffle Maker
Purchased: May 4, 2006

It works really well. It is sturdy. The heating elements are thick and also seem like they will last.

The interchangeable plates are connected by two "lips" towards the hinge and two push-button retractable retaining clips in the front of the unit, sort of like what you would see on some built-on luggage locks.

It is easy to clean, even the stainless top. The plates do pop off easily and clean well in the dishwasher.

UPDATE: (Jan 2007) It is still going strong and the non-stick plates are still doing a good job. One problem with the unit is trying to oil/butter the upper plate because the butter or oil tends to drip inside the unit. The next time it heats up, it leaves a bit of a residue on the counter. As someone suggested, a non-stick spray may work better, but I prefer not to use propellants.

UPDATE: (Feb 2009) I'm amazed this thing still works so well. The non-stick surface is still intact, no...

Avante
This seems to be a pretty popular item since it's always out of stock. I finally received mine and have made sandwiches and waffles. The plates are easy to remove and clean. The pocket sandwiches turned out great. A regular slice of bread overlaps the edge of the plates and the crust gets really crispy, which to me is the best part. The sandwiches need to sit a couple of minutes to crisp up once they are taken out of the machine. I think the Avante did a decent job on the waffles but keep in mind this isn't intended to serve up a quick breakfast for a large family. The recipes included with the machine makes 12 waffles which will take over 20 minutes to cook. I make 6 to eat right away and finish and put the rest in the freezer for another day.

I have also used the waffle plates to make the garlic shimp kebobs recipe that's in the instruction manual. They were really good.

Also, the plates may smoke a bit when they are used for the first time, mine did,...

A PLEASURE TO USE

T-Fal's Avante Sandwich/ waffle maker comes with interchangeable plates making the transition from Breakfast to Lunch - simple and easy. Just snap in/out the plate to clean. The non-stick coating makes cleaning effortless.

Hamilton Beach 70450 8-Cup Food Processor

Hamilton Beach 70450 8-Cup Food Processor

Hamilton Beach 70450 8-Cup Food Processor
A Kitchen appliance snob says 'WOW'
Kitchen supplies are like an addiction to me. I spare no expense on only the best. Kitchenaid mixers, Le Creuset whatever, All Clad this and that. But one day I was short on cash and decided I needed a food processor. I saw this in a grocery store for, like, $20. I said, "Screw it, this will work until I can afford a $100 Cuisinart." That was a year ago, and I have had no desire the replace this one yet. I grind nuts in it. I've made big batches of pesto in it. Hell, I make pie crust in it on a REGULAR basis (Making pie crust in a food processor, though much easier then using a pastry blender by hand, is absolute HELL on a food processor.) . This little bad boy takes the abuse and asks for more. If it blows up tomorrow, Ill have gotten my moneys worth, and even if I have the money for a better name brand, I would probably just go out and buy another Hamilton Beach. I'm only giving it 5 stars because Amazon wont let me give it 10. Seriously, 'Worth the Money' is an understatement.

Great for the price
When faced with the option of spending $100 or $30 for a processor of this capacity, I figured I would be crazy not to at least try the $30 (I went to my local Target to avoid the shipping fees). So far, I'm happy, but will likely upgrade in the next year or too. The aesthetic, low profile and weight are all excellent--no complaints.

I've used the slicing disk to cut a variety of vegetables with no real complaints. It has handled everything with relative ease--some smash up on the sides, but a million times faster and more consistent than by hand.

I haven't used the grating disk, but I'm skeptical of this feature in general.

The motor is powerful and so far my only problem is learning how powerful it is. I positively liquified onions the first time I tried to dice them. The real key is very quick pulses, and very few of them.

My only real problem, and the reason I will probably upgrade, is that the blade sits relatively high, so if you...

Excellent!
I was looking for a good food processor to make beer cheese for the winter. I use to just use an electric hand mixer before and realised I needed something to give it a much creamier texture.

After checking out a few differant brands and models, which I'm sure are very good too, I decided on this Hamilton Beach 6 cup food processor. Bring it looked well built, blades appeared good and strong, a good name brand and 6 cups being not to small so I can make up a big batch of beer cheese, but not to small so its not a burden to clean.

All I can say is I am extremely impressed with this thing.

Please mind, this is my first food processor, as I have recently been getting into cooking. But this is incrediblly powerful.

I really like the simple features, on and pulse, which pulse instantly turns off when you let go. I found this to be great when I'm adding touch ups to my beer cheese.

This product is very well built too. Its definatly not...

The Hamilton Beach Food Processor is good for mixing, chopping, slicing and shredding. Dishwasher safe bowl, lid and blades so you don't have to worry about cleaning. With it's space saving design, everything fits in bowl for easy storage.

  • In-bowl blade storage
  • Space-saving design
  • 300 Watt motor
  • Convenient On/Pulse dial
  • Dishwasher safe

LG 27.6 CF FRENCH DOOR REF SS

LG 27.6 CF FRENCH DOOR REF SS

LG 27.6 CF FRENCH DOOR REF SS
My prefered brand is LG, this fridge has just one problem
I like the way this fridge looks, and like all stainless appliances it shows streaks and finger prints, but it's worth it to me. If you are troubeled by that issue, don't by anything stainless. That isn't LGs fault, it's just a fact of the finish. I like that I can easily place a half sheet pan on any shelf and the fact that there are four separate drawers. All fridges are warmest at the top, so store less perishiable things up there.

It doesn't make huge amounts of ice, and the cubes are really small, but I don't have a large family so it isn't a problem for me. What is a problem is the way the left door closes. It is easy to have the mullion not go into it's channel, leaving the door open about an inch. It's true that it will beep after a minute or so, but if you grabbed your lunch out of the fridge on your way out the door, it will just beep all day and the fridge will be about 50 degrees on your return. Because I have never owned a french door fridge, I don't...

Beautiful, if only it was functional
First of all, the good part: This fridge is a gorgeous piece of kitchenware. The stainless steel looks stunning next to my oak cabinets, and I've gotten quite a few compliments.

However, it's functionality does not live up to its fabulous facade.

So, here are the bad parts:

The water dispenser is separate from and placed above the ice dispenser, so that the drip tray (even if extended) will not catch any excess water sloshed about. It also confuses anyone new to the fridge and you'll end with water all over your floor. We've started keeping water in pitchers when we host parties to prevent this. Still, we inevitably end up having to hand out towels to at least one unfortunate soul.

The ice maker is horrible. The ice cubes stick together constantly, so that you have to bang on it a bit. Plus, we've already had to call and get someone to come out and put in a new ice cube tray when ours got stuck mid-rotation and started making strange...

Great Refrigerator!
I have owned this refrigerator for a couple of years now, and it has been wonderful. No trouble at all, keeps food very cold. I like the French Doors, very usable space. The interior is beautiful with the LED lighting. The Linear Compressor is very quiet and has a ten year warranty. Ice output is moderate, but I knew that going in. It is OK for my use. My old refer would freeze my eggs. This one has no problems like that. I can say without reservation that this is the best refrigerator that I have ever owned! I also own an LG Washer and Dryer and they have been working away trouble free for 5 years now. My LG Stove has also been great, some trouble with the capacitive touch control panel, but LG service replaced it with out a problem. For me anyway, I like all the LG appliances that I own and have no regrets about buying any of them. I think people are most likely to write a review if they have a bad experience than if they have a good experience.

    GE PWR04FANBS Profile 20.125
    Gorgeous and worth the cost!
The only bad thing i can say about this item is that one of the rubber foots/feet came off when putting the item into its area. It was resolved by just putting the foot back where it broke from and it doesnt wobble or anything. I dont know if they sell replacement feet or not but it wasnt worth my time trying to get it fixed when i had it for 2 hours.

This unit is wonderful to look at and i enjoy the large size and the ability to look into the fridge and seeing all my wonderful bottles of wine! The racks only really hold the normal sized bottles and not the large ones or some of my champagne bottles. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how open bottles can still be put back into the fridge without spilling or leaking (by not being on its side but at an angle), but that was the biggest selling point for me with this fridge. I looked for others and could not find any with this feature under 1k.

A drawback: the door doesnt quite seem to open far enough to easily allow the racks to...

Great Product So Far! Quiet Unit Indeed!
Ok, so I just picked this up a few days ago at my local retailer (they had this unit on sale for %50 off) and I have to admit, this unit has been running pretty good. Now, I selected this unit based on several factors:

    1) Wine Capacity
    2) Open Wine Storage
    3) Noise Level

This unit can accommodate up to 29 bottles (5 bottles per rack). The racks have a little trouble sliding out, but it's no biggie if you like to look at the wines individually (which is my preference). The bottom rack can be used for either oversized bottles like Champagne or you can store open bottles at the bottom (they are tilted at an angle) which is great so you do not have to take up room in your kitchen refrigerator. Another thing I like about this unit, it's very quiet. When you do hear the compressor turn on, it's only audible for about 3 - 5 seconds before it quiets down. If you are hosting a party or if you have some audible noise in the background, it will not be heard...

    Great wine fridge
I've had this wine fridge about 9 months now and am very happy with it. I researched quite a bit before the purchase and liked the idea that this unit was actually by an "appliance" company, not some other company just making/marketing a product for a niche market.

Very quiet, barely/never hear the compressor cycle on when it starts the cooling cycle. Has 3 settings, red, white, and custom. External digital readout indicates the temperature stays within 1 degree up/down of the set point (haven't actually put a thermometer inside to verify the inside temp with the readout). Shelves have adequate spacing, no problems there. Nice sharp look in black and silver, and there's a cool interior bluish light you can turn of if you want to (it automatically turns off after a set time).

Got it on sale from major box store for $395 + tax, free delivery. Real happy with the purchase, price and capacity. When it's almost full I know it's time to stop buying wine or start...
